What is the movie Girl in Progress about?
Girl in Progress is more a drama than a comedy, that was written by Hiram Martinez and directed by Patricia Riggen. The essence of the story is growing up and experiencing things differently as a kid and as an adult. Two main characters of this story are the girl Ansiedad (Cierra Ramirez) and her mother Grace (Eva Mendes). Grace got pregnant when she was seventeen and she was kicked out of her mothers house. She never finished high school and now she works as a waitress at a sea food restaurant. And the whole problem with her finishing the high school and getting that diploma is actually in her not wanting to grow up. But, the little girl doesn't notice that until she gets to an age where she needs to grow up and start behaving as an adult. The lack of her parenting skills make her daughter make all the same mistakes as she did when she was her age. Big part in the whole process plays Ansiedad's English teacher, who is portrayed by Patricia Arquette, who introduces her to the whole concept of coming-of-age. That is the moment when Ansiedad finally starts to understand how unreliable her mother is and where she's stuck in time. This comedy drama is more than educational about how to pay attention to the kids in the teenage time, the time when they need the attention the most, when they are growing up.
