God Bless America is a refreshing comedy that points on very serious things that went in wrong direction. This is serious critic on present civilization wrapped in layer of comedy. Bobcat Goldthwait wrote and directed God Bless America to stand as a strong statement. Main character is Frank (Joel Murray), a middle aged man with no family and not many things that are filling his life. After doctor with no sense of compassion tells him that he has terminal tumour, Frank starts thinking about his options. At the moment when he was about to commit suicide with his handgun, a TV show makes him change his mind. Bombarded every day with irrelevant info about people who are totally insignificant for anything he decides that he had enough. He doesn’t want to take it any more. He has little time left and he is not going to tolerate shallow, spoiled people with no sense for other. As his first victim he chooses high school girl disappointed with car that she got birthday. While killing her he gets strange partner in crime. Sixteen year old school girl gets enthusiastic about his mission to make America better place. From this point on, he doesn’t spare any person that irritates him. Only people who behave nice are safe. It is true that many people are alive because killing them would lead the perpetrator to the prison. Where should line be placed? God Bless America points on all ugly things that people do despite the fact that is more than easy to correct them. Movie has open message and everyone should watch it.
