Kainene and Olanna are spoilt twins raised in a wealthy Nigerian family. Both of them study abroad at a privileged English college, but as soon as they return home to their usual glamorous life, they choose different paths. Olanna shocks her parents – instead of fulfilling her parents’ will she leaves them for her lover Odenigbo, a revolutionary professor, who lives in a dusty university town of Nsukka with his devoted houseboy Ugwu. Kainene, on the contrary, decided to take on family business and soon becomes a fiercely successful businesswoman. Besides that she also falls in love with one English writer – Richard. Both of the sisters are entangled in their love life and completely forget about the country’s political situation. However soon they have to wake up from their love oblivion and find themselves caught up in the middle of the Nigerian civil war. The Igbo people had to fight for their interests; they wanted to establish Biafra as an independent republic, which ended in incredible violence that shocked the whole world.
