In the Family is the brainchild of writer and director Patrick Wang. It all starts in Martin in Tennessee, with a gay couple Cody and Joey (Patrick Wang and Trevor St. John) and their boy Chip (Sebastian Banes). After Cody dies in a car accident, Joey gets himself in a pretty awkward position. While struggling to find their way to the life without Cody, Joey and Chip get separated. In the will that was left behind by Cody, Chip is to be under the guardianship of Cody's sister. That means that Joey is left without his son and must find a way to accommodate to that. Since the law isn't working for him, Joey gets lots of support from his friends as he gets adjusted to a lonesome life in his apartment. But, as he gets encouraged by his friends, he gets inspired to find the peace and make up with Cody's family, make things work and get the chance to meet his son and watch his grow up. This movie is filled with emotional scenes and lots of experiences that are from the real life. It will touch your soul and inspire you to have better relationship with the world around you after watching this three hour long movie about how gay rights still aren't conducted properly.
