Meet Elizabeth Masterson (Reese Witherspoon). She is a gorgeous woman who also happens to work in a San Francisco hospital and she is the most dedicated worker there. She doesn't have time for anything else. Since all of her friends and cousins are trying to talk her into going on a date, she accepts one offer from her sisters and gets all dressed up. As she gets into her car and takes off, she gets into a car accident and ends up in a coma. In the meantime, a man named David Abbott moves into her apartment, which is rented by Elizabeth's sisters. So, at one point, David starts seeing a gorgeous blonde woman in his apartment and has no idea who she is. The problem is, neither does she. At first David starts thinking that he is going crazy and that he really is losing his mind. But, as he visits some groups that deal with ghosts and their presence, he gets a bit calmer. With Elizabeth's body in the hospital and her spirit roaming around, two of them manage somehow to become friends and David promises her to investigate who she is and who her family is. Throughout the whole movie we see a bunch of hilarious situations two of them go through and they get closer and closer.
