Lauryn (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is a simple girl from Indiana. After her father dies, she is left totally alone with her older brother, who needs to take care of everything. They both work in a garage, he fixes the cars and she does the accounting job. Unlike her brother, Lauryn is a dreamy type and she loves to dance. Her dream is to get famous dancer. So, she sets of and tries to impress the commission at the audition in one Chicago school during the audition. Unfortunately for her, she fails to do so and doesn't make it. She is reluctant to tell her brother that she failed, so she lies and stops calling so often. In between she finds a job in the local burlesque club as an accountant and thinks the way how to get through and get herself in the world of dancing. There, she meets lots of people and gets herself somehow on the stage, where she proves to be a great dancer. Also, she gets to know a totally different kind of dance and is more than eager to get it and use it as her weapon. At one point, her non supportive brother comes to look for her at school and finds out the truth. Will she carry on or will she go back home instead?
