What is the movie Mr. Pip about?
We all love Hugh Laurie in the role of Dr. House. He's sarcastic, ironic, funny- everything he needs to be. But, since most of us know him in that light, have you ever wondered how he would look like in any other role? For example, as a teacher? "Mr.Pip" is exactly what you should watch to see him in that role. He plays the role of the main character, a white man, a teacher Mr. Watts, who comes in the province of Bougainville in Papua New Guinea, populated by black people, trying to teach the children how to read and write, but foremost, how to imagine and think. And the only way to do that is by introducing them to the world of Dickens' novels and one of the characters, Mr. Pip. Leading female role in this film gets young Xzannjah Matsi, who plays Matilda, a girl from the class, whose imagination has no limits as soon as she discovers the novel. But, unfortunately, the real life has lots of harsh situations, such as an unexpected terrorising by a military troupes during a raging war, who kill couple of men and burn out all the books. From the Academy Award nominated director of "The Chronicles of Narnia" Andrew Adamson and based on Lloyd Jones' award winning novel, comes "Mr.Pip", the movie that will blow you mind and make you reconsider reading books more and again and using your imagination.
