2003 mystery drama “Mystic River” was another critically acclaimed film by Clint Eastwood. It stars Sean Penn, Tim Robbins and Kevin Bacon as three childhood friends whose paths cross again after a terrible tragedy. “Mystic River” holds the distinction of being the first film since “Ben-Hur” (1959) to win the Academy awards for both the best actor (Penn) and the best supporting actor (Robbins). In 1975 Boston Jimmy, Dave and Sean, three young boys, are approached by two strange men who capture Dave and sexually molest him for four days until he manages to escape. 25 years later Jimmy (Penn) is an ex convict who runs a neighborhood store, Dave (Robbins) is a blue collar worker living in Dave’s neighborhood, and Sean (Bacon) is a detective with the Massachusetts State Police. Dave comes home with an injured hand and blood on his clothes claiming to be mugged the same night Jimmy’s teenage daughter is beaten and killed. As Sean and his partner Whitey Powers (Lawrence Fishburne) conduct an investigation into the murder, Jimmy conducts an investigation of his own, and his search gradually points him in Dave’s direction. As Jimmy tries to determine whether his childhood friend is responsible for the death of his daughter, Sean and Powers are on the trail of new suspects.
