From the mind of Kazuo Ishiguro, who wrote the novel on which Alex Garland did the screenplay, a movie was directed by Mark Romanek. The plot is simple and reflects various emotions at the same time as the story goes on. At the beginning the audience gets to know an unusual boarding school called Hailsham which is full of kids. They all seem happy and joyful. The place looks idyllic. Ruth (Keira Knightly), Kathy (Carey Mulligan) and Tommy (Andrew Garfield) are three best friends. As they grow up they find themselves in the awkward love triangle, where Ruth is the jealous one. Throughout the movie the audience is left to wonder why is all of that so mysterious and weird, until they get the information that these children are actually bread for organ donations. About their childhood and their friendships, we get to know from the various flashbacks. At one point, one of their teachers, Miss Lucy (Sally Hawkins) reveals them their true purpose and the next morning already gets fired and deported from there. As they are about to leave Hailsham, they find themselves in pretty isolated situation, now knowing what to do in the real world. But, that is only for a while, because they are placed in the place called The Cottages. After a while, Kathy and Tommy fall in love and submit a request to their guardians, amongst which is head mistress (Charlotte Rampling), to be deferred as donors if they prove that they are really in love.
