“Night Moves” centers on three environmentalists who really care about Mother Nature. It is a deep drama directed by talented Kelly Reichardt. The movie itself is based on a bestselling novel “The Monkey Wrench Gang” by Edward Abbeys. All the three environmentalists are quite radical in their thoughts and actions. They are up to something, and this something is going to change both their lives and the lives of people surrounding them. They are willing to execute the most spectacular and dangerous direct action event of their lives. They plan to explode a hydroelectric dam. There’s a very touching scene at the beginning of the movie: Josh Stamos drives along country highway road at night; suddenly he swerves over the traffic lane in an attempt to avoid a doe lying in the middle of the road. As the car stops, Dena Brauer and Josh approach the dead doe. It turns out that the doe is pregnant and Josh manages to pull out her barely breathing baby. That scene was a clincher that made both of them come up with that dangerous plan – to blow up a hydroelectric dam of a wealthy multi-international corporation.
