Based on book that was written by Margaret Humphreys, comes a screenplay adaptation by Rona Munro and the movie was directed by Jim Loach. This drama called Oranges and sunshine is dealing with a whole generation of children that has migrated to Australia. It all starts in the middle of the 20th century in England, as a whole large group of children were told that they were orphans and they were deported to Australia, where lots of oranges and sunny days were promised. Once they were there, kids were sold as slaves. And in all that was involved a highly respectable church organisation called "The Brothers". Several decades after that event, in about 1980, a social worker called Margaret Humphreys (Emily Watson) from Nottingham has discovered that and was more than determined to set things right. She held the British government responsible for everything that happened and managed to firstly find the victims and then to reunite them with their families, which were back in England. Although these children are already all grown up and may have families of their own, Margaret isn't giving up. She meets each one of them and hears their gruesome stories about how they lived under the ships of their masters, doing manual labour, and all sorts of things. That all brings her as well in danger, because not to long after starting the whole process, she has faced various threats, both over the phone and live.
