They say that every pot finds its lid, but they never had this combination in mind, that is for sure. On the surface, this movie seems like another dull romance with a comical element here and there, but is everything but that. It is full of hilarious moments that will bring you to tears from laughing. The original story was written by Mary Gaitskill, and after that was adapted into a movie screenplay by Erin Cressida Wilson and Steven Shainberg, who was also the man behind the camera and did the directing part. At the very beginning of the movie there is one of two main characters that the audience gets to meet- Lee Holloway (Maggie Gyllenhaal). She is in her 20s and has just been released from the mental hospital. That is why she moved to her home town in Florida. Looking for a way to get herself back in the game, she takes a job as a secretary in a local law firm. Then, the audience gets to meet the second main character, and that is her boss, Mr. Grey (James Spader). Two of them start developing a very unusual masochistic-sadistic relationship during their working hours and as their relationship goes further, they start showing their deepest longings and desires.
