Kids from foster homes are almost always a trouble. It is impossible to keep them away from getting arrested and getting into more troubles the moment they get out of the prison. Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) is no exception as well. After him and his best friend Mac Carter (Damaine Radcliff), along with his younger brother Skinny (De'Shawn Washington), gets thrown out of a party, they break into the Maryland School of Arts (or short MSA). and manage to destroy the theatre. Tyler gets caught by the school security. He also gets sentenced by the court to 200 working hours of community service and is to do whatever the janitor of that school gives him to. One afternoon a young graduate student Nora Clark (Jenna Dewan Tatum) sees him dancing outside the school and as she is in the need for a partner, since her partner Andrew broke his ankle, she gives a suggestion to principal Gordon. So, Nora and Tyler start practising for her final piece and finally get closer together. As Andrew returns after a while, Tyler feels betrayed and leaver her on her own. In the meantime, Skinny, Mac's younger brother gets shot by one of the guys from the local gang and it was Mac's fault, so they are all hit by a tragic event. Learning the lesson about how short life is, Tyler repents and tries to do some last-minute fixing right before her final showcase.
