Laurie Collyer wrote screenplay and directed movie about very serious topic. Under title “Sunlight Jr” lies serious critic Americas standard declining prosperity. Social justice is also questioned because in many cases there is none. Story revolves around couple that lives from pay check to pay check. Well known Matt Dillon plays disabled Richie who was carpenter before the accident that put him in wheelchair. Experienced Naomi Watts is starring as Richie’s girlfriend Melissa. Movie focuses on social problems of the couple with only cause of problems being of financial nature. Melissa works hard long hours as clerk in convenience store for boss who is disrespectful and has no sense of compassion. He is in a way symbol of ruthless capitalism. In this situation there are not many news to consider good. When couple finds out that Melissa is pregnant everything changes. This is heartbreaking for both of them. Richie is faced with fact that he can’t provide for the family. Melissa has problems at her already miserable job. On top of everything on scene jumps her ex boyfriend Justin (Norman Reedus). Norman did convincing play of twisted dude who harassed Melissa at her workplace, and insulting disabled Richie. All that stress is and physical pain will force Richie to seek comfort in alcohol. That will effect Melissa and it up them if they are going to fall in to self destructing spiral or not. “Sunlight Jr.” is heavy drama and it leave bitter taste of criticism.
