What is the movie Take Shelter about?
One of the most driving forces is certainly fear. Some people just don't admit that, but some are aware of that and can say it openly. Fear makes us not being able to function right, make all the wrong decisions because of not being able to process things in a proper way and we manage to destroy ourselves. Movie Take Shelter is based exactly on that. It starts with a man, named Curtis (Michael Shannon), who starts having strange visions in the night, but a bit later as well as during the day. He sees bits and glimpses of what he thinks is yet to come and which includes storms, plagues, and lots of more scary things. This storm is shown as the end of the world kind of storm, which is going to take lives of everyone, even those Curtis lovers. So, he starts making a shelter in the ground. He spends most of the money building that, making everyone around him think that he had gone insane. There is a rumour that his mother was diagnosed with schizophrenia in her late 30s, and he isn't far from that age. That puts him in the position that he gets estranged even from his wife, who he tries to protect. But, as he starts giving up and accepting that he may be losing his mind after all, bad things start happening and everyone start telling him he was right. Everything that he foretold happened at the same way he told them it would. Will they survive?
