Barry Battles, the director and co-writer of an action comedy, did a long forgotten gag. He took great Billy Bob Thornton and famous beauty Eva Longoria and gave them roles that are not leading. In this fast going comedy Barry Battles mixed greed, domestic violence, hard drinking, guns, red-necks, corrupt politicians, gorgeous half-naked babes and much more. With excessive violence and overdoing all macho stuff movie The Baytown Outlaws keeps attention of audience. Still this is not classic crash and burn action. Here and there serious things like a family tragedy are lurking. In a way movie is full with tragedies. Because story is unbelievable, all that destroying has a humoristic note. Characters have interesting relations between them. Dialogues are one thing that sets aside other movies of this type. Action of The Baytown Outlaws is set in Alabama. Story starts with three brothers Brick Oodie (Clayne Crawford), McQueen Oodie (Travis Fimmel) and Lincoln Oodie (Daniel Cudmore). Trio works for Sheriff. They kill other criminals in order to make state the one with lowest crime rate. From nowhere comes stunning Celeste (Eva Longoria) with job proposal. She offers them twenty five thousand dollars if they retrieve her godson from her ex. Carlos (Billy Bob Thornton), her ex, is a crime boss and has reasons why he keeps a hostage. Brothers take boy but Carlos survives the action. Very soon every hired gun is hunting our three brothers and a kid. With four million dollars budget Barry made relatively enjoyable action comedy.
