It is not unusual for writers to seek inspiration in real life experience. That is exactly what Zal Batmanglij and Brit Marlig did. They joined real anarchistic group and based on that experience wrote story for movie The East. Zal Batmanglij directed movie which promises that screening of the story went good. Zal made straight forward thriller that lasts little less than two hours. Story puts spotlight on many important yet forgotten questions. Great story needs great characters. Experienced beauty Brit Marling has leading role. Her character Sarah is an agent who works for private intelligence agency. She gets an assignment to infiltrate in one anarchistic group. This group of eco terrorists is called “The East”. This organization targets huge corporations that are polluting environment without care for people and community. They like to poison leading managers with products from their own corporations. Sarah is agent with many skills and a pretty face. She is a strong minded person. It was difficult for Sarah to infiltrate in cult like group. Hard core members of The East don’t trust Sara and she constantly needs to prove herself. She volunteers for one action with intention get trust of leader. The more time she spends with anarchists the more she understands them. During her assignment The East are spoon feeding her with informations. When she realizes how deep she is in crime it is too late. Movie reveals her conflicts during course of the events. With high moral complexity move The East is very good thriller. It is little bit predictable but the ending is satisfying.
