From the independent filmmakers comes lots of stuff. Some of the movies are really good and some are as equally bad. This is the one from the first group. The Girl from the Naked Eye was directed by David Ren, and boy, he did an amazing job. The effects give you and illusion of getting the visual presentation of an old comic book, which is a great thing. The story begins with a young, sixteen year old call girl named Sandy. She works in a strip club called Naked Eye, and she is also a call girl. Jake (Jason Yee) is her driver and her only friend. And her boss, the pimp, is Simon (Ron Yuan), who is at the very top of the criminal activities. But, as she gets murdered one night, Jake is set out to discover who did it and do some payback. Throughout the movie we see all the characters Jake has to deal with in order to get even a bit closer to his goal. Not every encounter comes easy as he hopes. But, that makes the movie even more interesting and captivating. There is lots of narrative style in the movie, as well as lots of flashbacks. That is the way the audience gets to find out some of the things that may come up as confusing. This movie exceeded the expectations and won its rights to stand shoulder by shoulder with great Hollywood movies.
