Human history is filled with events where people did many horrible things in the name of religion. Even today, subject of religion is sensitive and many people still do bad things and think that it is the only right way to live. David Baddiel wrote the story that makes fun of extreme devotion to religion, and it also brings many questions in very funny way. This movie is a comedy and it is not offensive. Josh Appignanesi placed many critics about religious people and people who are involved in religious questions while directing The Infidel. Movie follows Mahmud Nasir, who is Muslim but not devoted. He drinks and doesn’t pray five times a day. He has a family and his life is already funny to watch. His wife is dominant and their pillow talk will make everyone laugh except Mahmud and his wife Saamiya. When his son starts planning to marry daughter of Arshad Al-Masri from Waziristan in Pakistan, problems will start to emerge from the past. Arshad is called hate-cleric and without his promotion this marriage is not possible. While preparing papers for the wedding Mahmud will discover that he was adopted and that his biological parents were Jewish. This pushes Mahmud in series of events that are more than funny. They open many questions about our point of view on the religion. Because of wedding and strict Arshad, Mahmud tries to discover Jewish culture on his own without telling anyone. On his journey Mahmud has many funny lines and situations are equally funny even if we know already what is going on. Movie The Infidel is great comedy with serious critique and important question. Who can determine out religion and can it be changed, why and when? And does it matter?
