The Last Days on Mars is a sci fi horror flick directed by Ruari Robinson. The movie is based on a short story by Sydney J. Bounds and stars Liev Schreiber, Elias Koteas and Romola Garai. The story revolves around the first manned mission to Mars. It is the last day of the mission and a crew member of Tantalus Base makes an astounding discovery. He discovers fossilized evidence of bacterial life. He doesn't want the relief crew to claim all of the glory and he disobeys the orders to pack up and goes out on an expedition to collect further samples. A disaster happens and what would be a routine excavation turns into a nightmare. The ground collapses and the man falls down into a deep crevice. His colleagues attempt to recover his body, but soon enough they start to vanish. The crew learns that the life form they have discovered is pretty dangerous. The Last Days on Mars is a good sci fi flick with an interesting story and good actors. It is a low budget movie, but it accomplishes so much despite the low budget. The tension can be felt constantly which turns this movie into one of the creepiest horror movies. The setting is unique and the special effects are decent. If you are willing to ignore a few shortcomings you will definitely enjoy all of the terrors brought by this horror movie.
