The story for “The Nightmare Before Christmas” was conceived by Tim Burton while he worked as an animator for Disney and was finally released in 1993 with him as a producer. This critically acclaimed and commercially successful stop motion animated musical fantasy was directed by Henry Selick, and it tells the tale of Jack Skellington, a being from a place called “Halloween Town” who tries to take over the Christmas festivities in “Christmas Town”. Jack Skellington, also known as the “Pumpkin King”, is the de facto mayor of Halloween Town, a town inhabited by various monstrous creatures (ghouls, vampires, etc.). Skellington has grown bored of organizing the annual Halloween festivities, and one day, wandering around the cemetery, he finds the portal to Christmas Town and is impressed with the preparations for the Christmas celebrations. He goes back home and presents his fellow citizens with a plan to take over Christmas. Jack kidnaps Santa and takes over his role, traveling around the globe delivering presents, but his presents are a source of horror and misery for the kids. After barely surviving an encounter with army forces, Jack realizes his mistakes and goes back to try and fix them. He rescues Santa who, after delivering proper presents for kids, makes the snow fall in Halloween Town, to the delight of his citizens. Jack, now full of new ideas about Halloween, also finds a romantic ending to the story.
