They say that from a tragedy always comes a great event and great people get to play their part in the history. The same is with Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson). He is a French-Indian war hero, who was living in the 1776 in South Carolina. After the war was over and he got out of the army, he was more than eager to live his life peacefully. On the other hands, his two sons, Gabriel and Thomas just couldn't wait till they get old enough to apply for Continental Army, one of the military troops that was formed for fighting against one of the worlds biggest forces, Great Britain. As the South Carolina was doing its first steps in the fight against England, Gabriel (Heath Ledger) signed up for the fight without his father knowing anything about that. After getting himself in first lines, Gabriel gets killed, of course. With Colonel William Tavington (Jason Isaacs) doing one of his famous brutal tactics and burning down the whole Martin plantation to the ground, Benjamin is left without his son as well as anything else. From that point on, his only goal is to get his revenge and settling the score with the Colonel. On the other hand, with one son gone, he still has the rest of his family to protect. What will he do?
