The Prestige is set in the end of the nineteenth century in London. Robert Angier (played by Hugh Jackman), his wife Julia McCullough (played by Piper Perabo) and Alfred Broden (played by Christian Bale) are all friends and assistants of a magician. During one performance Julia dies and Robert blames Alfred for it and the two become enemies. Both of them become famous magicians and rivals as well. They sabotage each others' performance on stage, when Alfred performs a trick, Robert becomes obsessed trying to disclose Alfred's trick, but it won't happen without consequences. This is a story about deceit and jealousy full of obsessions and battles for supremacy. The Prestige is a fun movie to watch, it even gives out a few secrets to how certain magical tricks are performed, it is a nice insight into the world of magicians and illusionists. Costumes and sets are gorgeous, 19th century England never looked this good on the screen, plenty of attention has been put into the details which make the world of the movie seem real. The Prestige has a nice twist and an awesome ending which will definitely leave many people puzzled. This movie is definitely worth your time and both Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman put out an impressive performance, even David Bowie shows up as the great scientist Nikola Tesla.
