Journalists are the craziest type of people. They are willing to get themselves into a huge danger just so they could get the story they are after. And they sometimes drink a lot. Well, Paul Kemp is a journalist. This is a pretty dark comedy based on the original book piece, written by Hunter S. Thompson. For the adaptation was the director himself responsible, Bruce Robinson. The time of the story is placed in 1960s and the place is San Juan, Puerto Rico. Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp) is a newcomer, journalist who took the job at the local newspaper and moved there. Lotterman (Richard Jenkins), his boss, gives him to do tourist articles, sightseeing and revision of them, as well as the horoscope. That is not what he had signed up for. Besides that, he shares the flat with one of his co-workers Sala (Michael Rispoli), who drinks all the time. When Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart), the rich investor hires Paul to investigate a group of other investors who are up to buy a local island and make a resort spa, Paul finally gets the chance to get his story through eyes of a detective. Along the way, he gets to meet Sanderson's girl, golden haired and stunning Chenault (Amber Heard), who he gets also involved with. Will he be able to make it through with all the booze and all the action that's going on?
