Based on the novel written by Maria von Trapp, "The Story of the Trapp Family Singers", comes a family drama movie, which plot takes place in Austria in 1930's. The screenplay was done by Ernest Lehman and it was directed by Robert Wise. It all starts as a young woman called Maria (Julie Andrews) is eager to become a nun. But, besides her good will and her wanting, there is something missing in this calling. That is about to get even worse when Navy captain Georg Von Trapp (Christopher Plummer) comes to her monastery asking if they have a governess that can handle seven children at once. Taking care of seven children is sure not an easy task, but Maria accepts it. Since captain wife is dead and he is often gone, someone needs to look after those kids and teach them good manners. As the children are all more than unwilling to cooperate, Maria, as lots of their previous governess, gets a cold shower as a welcome. But, unlike other governesses, Maria's warm heart knows no boundaries when it comes to giving love to the others. That gets through to the children and they grow fond of her. Soon, after spending most of the time with this family, Maria and captain find themselves falling in love and that is where Marias calling as a nun ends. Now, there is a new goal in her life- being a mother.
