An absolute sci-fi classic that helped launch the career of James Cameron, “The Terminator” was a surprising box office hit that spawned three more sequels, with the fourth one in the works. The year is 2029, and highly intelligent machines lead a war against humanity. Using time travel, two subjects get sent back into year 1984. One of them is a humanoid robot (Arnold Schwarzenegger) sent to kill Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), the future mother of the leader of the human resistance movement John Connor. The other one is Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn), member of the resistance movement sent to protect Sarah. Using the phone directory, the robot, called “the terminator”, tracks down and kills two people named Sarah Connor before locating his true target. Reese makes it just in time to save Sarah, and the two take off. Reese tells Sarah his hard to believe time travel story. They are soon again running from the terminator, and after the ensuing car chase both are arrested, Terminator attacks the police station and kills many police officers, but Sarah and Reese manage to escape. That night they make love in a hotel, but are again found by the terminator in the morning. Reese loses his life trying to protect Sarah, badly damaging the killer robot in the process. Sarah manages to lure the robot into a hydraulic press, thus destroying it. A few months later we see her pregnant and traveling through Mexico. She is recording her messages to her son on tape and ponders whether to tell him that Reese is his father.
