When palaeontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) gets invited to fly to Arctic, she doesn't know what to expect. What could the research team find in the land of ice and snow? But, something fantastic is about to happen. As she arrives, they take her to the room with something iced in a snow cube. She hears the story how they found an alien spacecraft deep below the surface of Arctic and they evaluate it's age on maybe 100 000 years. These remains of something iced in a cube were found a little further from the spacecraft. As they test the sample they took from the drilled piece, they fin out that it was alive and decide to celebrate. The discovery isn't small and they are all proud of themselves. But, while they have fun, the ice, in which is the creature, starts to melt, setting the unknown specimen free to roam around. And it seems like strange things start happening, they hear screams, but it seems like everyone is still alive and fine. That is until they discover that the creature is capable of copying the original body cells and transform into each and every one of them. This land of ice then becomes their prison from which they hardly can escape.
