What is the movie The Treasure of the Sierra Madre about?
Here are couple of reasons why you have to watch The Treasure of the Sierra Madre: Humphrey Bogart, Walter Huston, Tim Holt, Bruce Bennett and director John Huston. When these guys are in charge of a certain movie, that means that you are about to see something that you will never forget about. Welcome to Mexico! This is where the story unfolds and in the beginning of the movie we see Dobbs and Curtin meeting in this country and working for a contractor. Nothing unusual here, you will say, but wait, there is always a but. Pat McCormick is the contractor and he takes them away to the remote site where they have to work. You will get paid when the work is finished – that is what he told them. After they are done doing what they do best, they go back to pick up the money, but Pat McCornick gives them only a couple of dollars and tells them that he will be right back, he just needs to go to the bank. While waiting, they meet an old prospector and realize that there is plenty of gold in the hills... He will go with them if they have enough money to take him there. After some”persuasion”, they get their money and head to the hills. They are all happy since they are going to the hills to dig the gold and become rich. Everything is great, but the main questions is are they going to be good friends in the end?

This film made a huge impression on me when I first saw it at the age of 15 or 16. A recent re-watching on DVD really served to bring home for me what makes this film so special.
The whole thing is quite good, but it really hits you when Howard goes off to celebrate with the Indians, leaving Dobbs and Curtin to care for his gold and burros. The ensuing scenes of their spiraling mistrust and tension are absolutely spellbinding--the kind of thing that makes you lean forward in your seat just to get your eyes a little closer to the raw humanity unfolding in front of you. Their paranoia, the way you can SEE scenarios of betrayal dancing in their eyes, Dobbs' burgeoning madness--these are the moments that make this film one for the ages.
