The action of the show is developed in the small Mystic Falls city located in Virginia, which is being persecuted by the supernatural personalities. The main attention in the show is paid to the love trisngle between heroes Elena Gilbert( Nina Dobrev) and two vampire brothers Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Sommerhalder). During the time when the subject line was developed, the accent of the show is also focused on the mystic past of the city with the participation in it of Elena's doppleganger-Catherine Pearce (Caterina Petrova) and on the family of Originals each of who have their own plans. The parents of seventeen years old Elena Gilbert die in a car accident, four months after the tragedy have passed, and Elena is still suffering. So when she met at the beginning of the studying year at school the handsome student Stefan Salvatore. Stefan and Elena started feeeling mutual simpathy towards each other, but Elena didn't had a clue in that time that Stefan is a vampire who is already one hundred sixty two years old, and who is trying to live peacefully around people, no matter the fact that his brother Damon- is the essence of cruelty who is poisoning his life.
