What is the movie W.E. about?
From the famous singer Madonna, who was a second time director and co-writer, comes an outstanding movie that has elements of drama and romance called W.E. Although it is based on historic events, the story is not historically accurate. So, if you are one of those people that pay much attention to that, you might want to skip the movie. But, it really is mesmerizing and captivating. The story follows parallel lives of Wallis Simpson (Andrea Riseborough) around 1930s and an unhappy housewife Wally Winthrop (Abbie Cornish) in 1998. Wally is unhappy with her marriage and starts obsessing with this woman, who was famous by her affair with the King Edward VIII, when he abdicated his throne for the love he had for her. Throughout the movie we get to see how Wally explores and experiences the world that was long time ago and that she desperately wishes. The audience gets to see as well how the whole affair begun, how King Edward fell in love with an ordinary commoner, Wallis, which was unacceptable for that time. While she was talked about and written about in every newspaper, she kept strong and her head up high throughout the whole process. Although this was her second time directing, Madonna did an amazing job in transferring to screen what she had envisioned and brought it to the audience. Also, one of the important lessons in this movie is thing that, not even the most famous persons are immortal- they are people like everyone else and no one can tell what hides behind the smile in front of the camera.
