If someone is looking for fast pace action, cleverly organised crime and thrilling twist Welcome to the Punch is the perfect choice. Eran Creevy wrote a story that has sophisticated criminals, an ambitious detective and rain of fired bullets, but still it is not pure action. Former criminal Jacob Sternwood (Mark Strong) left London, leaving his nemesis detective Max Lewinsky (James McAvoy) behind as well. When Jacobs’ son gets shot after heist gone wrong, his father will show up in London again. Driven with unrealistic desire to catch Jacob, Max is going to risk his life many times just get close to him. Tables will turn and when Jacob gets in position to decide about Maxes life, story will get complicated. Plot is interesting and it will bring to unusual cooperation between people that would rather shoot each other. Effects in Welcome to the Punch are done with great care and they do not overcast the shadow on excellent acting done by James McAvoy and Mark Strong. Action makes audience forget about time and length of the movie. Director Eran Creevy made great movie with budget that is far below average budgets seen in Hollywood blockbusters. The only thing that lacks in this movie is the character development. The rest is done almost perfectly with little or no room for improvements. Welcome to the Punch delivers more than it is asked for and it is very enjoyable film to watch.
