Do you allow yourself to dream about being the greatest dancer world has ever seen? Have you ever dreamed of being a skillful football player wanted by top football teams? Maybe a great musician? Or a great singer? The main character of “Whiplash” wishes to become a great drummer, the one that will be remembered for years. Maybe you’ve already given up your dream but Andrew, our protagonist, knows that greatness doesn’t come easily so he practices until his hands bleed. He’s only 19 years old but his determination to become a jazz star can be envied. He studies at a music conservatory in Manhattan and struggles with his teacher (Terrence Fletcher) who seems to have a ruthlessly brutal teaching style. Andrew feels lucky to be picked to play in the school band, but his teacher pushes him to his limits so that he can realize his full potential. At some point it becomes obvious that the conservatory teacher is off the limit and he pushes too hard, but Andrew does his best to succeed.
