The story begins with a family getting stuck in traffic in New York. At one point, there is an explosion and although the police officers tell people to get back in their cars, a raging mass starts crowding the place, running everywhere. Without wasting a moment, Gerry Lane, played by Brad Pitt, decides to get things into his hands and get his family out of there as soon as possible. Soon afterwards we find out that Gerry is a United Nations employee and that a dangerous virus has spread across the country, turning people into zombies. He does all he can to rescue his family. At one point they get into an abandoned building, where they come across a family barricaded in their apartment. As the action goes on, Gerry makes sure to put his family in the safe place, by arranging a chopper to pick them up and take them to safety. After that, his mission to save the world continues. And as we get to watch his attempts to get rid of the zombie and not to get bitten, every moment seems precious and important, making us hooked up to our chairs and not wanting to blink from the excitement. Both Brad Pitt, as well as his fellow actors have had amazing performances, that brought their characters to life and provided an emotional roller coaster for the viewers.
