Actors who can sing

Some people are just multi-talented. Many singers nowadays are also great dancers and these things just sort of go together, but there are some really good actors who can sing as well. Having in mind that they work in entertainment industry, it’s not such a big surprise, but it’s always nice to discover that your favorite movie star is a good singer too. Here are some of the best singers among actors.

Queen Latifah

She is one actress who can literally do it all, from producing, modeling, rapping and of course singing. She showed off her vocal ability in hit musicals, Chicago and Hairspray. Plus she released her own jazz album.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Paltrow is no stranger to singing. She showcases her not-so-bad vocal chops in 2000 drama Duets, alongside Huey Lewis. Also, she showed off her singing talent on Glee and in Country Strong. Paltrow sounds the part in the music video for the movie’s title track, which she performed live on the CMAs.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been acting for decades, getting his start in Hollywood as a young boy of seven. Incredibly, none of his roles has really required too much singing. And this is a shame, because he’s actually quite good at it. He frequently sings at concerts, where he’ll cover anything from Lady Gaga to Nirvana.

Ryan Gosling

In Blue Valentine he sang and played ukulele. The former “Mickey Mouse Club” star also plays in a band called Dead Man’s Bones.

Scarlett Johansson

In addition to a long acting resume, Scarlett Johansson has found time to release two studio albums. The actress’ discography includes 2008’s “Anywhere I Lay My Head” and the 2009 album with Pete Yorn, “Break Up.”

Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr. is known for various films, including the Iron Man saga. In 2000, he starred in the television show, Ally McBeal and during one episode he sang a duet of “Every Breath You Take” and showed his vocal skills.

Evan Rachel Wood

The actress used her own voice for the 2007 musical film Across the Universe, alongside co-star Jim Sturgess.

Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman hit all the right notes in 2001’s Moulin Rouge opposite Ewan McGregor. That same year, the Australian actress released a remake of the 1966 hit “Something Stupid” with singer Robbie Williams.

John Stamos

John Stamos has come a long way from his Full House days as uncle Jesse. He’s now on Fox’s hit show, Glee as Dr. Carl Howell. Outside of acting John can sing very well. He has performed with the Beach Boys since the ’90s and even plays the guitar and drums.

Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon

Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon

For a biopic of Johnny and June Carter Cash (Walk the Line), consummate professional actors — and non-singers — Phoenix and Witherspoon insisted on recording all their own vocals. The gamble paid off as they were fantastic.

Sarah Michelle Gellar

She is best known for her lead role as Buffy on the TV series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. One thing many people may not know is that she sang several of the songs during the Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical episode “Once More, with Feeling”, which led to a cast album.

Jamie Foxx

Foxx played piano as a kid and earned a music scholarship to the U.S. International University in San Diego, but his flawless, Oscar-winning impression of the iconic Ray Charles won him praise for both his acting and singing performance.

Zooey Deschanel

Although she’s much more well-known as an actor than as a singer, she’s never shied away from singing in any of her roles. You can see Zooey singing pretty much every week on New Girl, and she also performed the role of Lady Larkin in Once Upon a Mattress. And of course, there’s her indie rock bank ‘She & Him’.

Meryl Streep

Oscar winner Meryl Streep is a veteran actress known for tons of films. When she played the lead role in Mamma Mia! in 2008 she blew everyone away with her voice.

I have never had a doubt about the multi-talented people getting their way to the stage and screens. This is very good when talented people do their job and do it right! A real cool actor, who can sing is a double pleasure to look at and listed to. I wish I could do both, but I cannot do any of these. LOL Just being myself and living myself no matter what!
