Angelina Jolie visits Syrian refugees in Lebanon

angelina United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie went to Lebanon on Monday to meet with Syrian refugees. The actress spoke with Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam and met with several orphans from the country.

Jolie wants to raise awareness about the tragedy of the Syrian refugees.

She has released a statement, which reads: “Meeting these children was a heart-rending experience. They have lost their families and their childhood has been hijacked by war. They are so young, yet they are bearing the burdens of their reality as if they are adults…

angelina-jolie“The generosity and solidarity shown by Lebanon and the Lebanese to its neighbor serves as an example to the world for which we should all be grateful. We all need to help them bear this burden.”

Conflict in Syria began in 2011 with anti-government protests over unemployment, decades of dictatorship, corruption and state violence. In 2012 international Red Cross formally declared it a civil war. More than 2 million people fled the country and over 800.000 of them are currently in Lebanon. Almost half of the refugees are girls and women, while another quarter are boys under 18.

It is very sad that due to dirty politics and wars innocent people have to suffer, especially kids. They were lost their childhood and had to get adults very fast in their thinking and ways of survival. Angelina Jolie makes a great job by helping people all over the world, who need her help and who need refuge, food, medical care and roof t live under. Angie we are proud of you and God bless you for what you do!
