Actor/writer/director/producer Ben Affleck is set to direct and produce a TV pilot for a new crime drama for Fox.

The project, titled The Middle Man, is set in Boston in the 1960s and centers on the relationship between Rudy MacAteer, an FBI agent responsible for taking down the Italian-American mafia, and his confidential informant, Irish-American gangster Mickey Flood. The pair’s actions inadvertently bolster the Irish-American mob.

The pilot was written by Moonlighting and Medium creator Glenn Gordon Caron, who will executive produce alongside Affleck.

Production of the pilot, which could lead to a TV series, is scheduled to begin in early 2014.
