In her new video “Pretty Hurts”, Beyoncé shows what kind of things women are willing to do to satisfy the standards of beauty set by society.
The singer has released a behind-the-scenes look into the making of the video to point out the pressure on women to look a certain way.
The music video director Melina Matsoukas said: ”The concept of the video is really a behind the scenes look into society’s take on beauty and how it doesn’t bring you happiness and it doesn’t move you forward in life. It’s really finding yourself that brings you happiness.”
“Pretty Hurts” video shows Beyoncé taking part in a beauty pageant and, in one shot, the singer is shown with markings on her face and poses with a plastic surgeon.
She said: ”I’m pretending to get a face-lift and Botox. It represents all the things that women go through to keep up with the pressure that society puts on us. Some of the things that young women go through, it’s just really heartbreaking for me.”
”I knew I wanted to do Pretty Hurts with Melina. I knew she would understand the message of the song. That song represents finding that one thing in the world that makes you really happy,” the singer concluded.
I dislike it. I love Beyonce and her videos but this is so insincere coming from one of the most beautiful women on the planet who actively works at looking good and being perfect for society. Beyonce is one of the main people who piles on makeup and gets certain clothes and dental work and hair extensions that make a woman look good. This is not a sincere message coming from her. I will always like Beyonce but I’m rolling my eyes at this.
Come on Beyonce! You are one of the celebrities who perpetuate the very idea of outer beauty! When do you ever see Beyonce putting out a video in which she is not made up to the hilt with provocative clothing. And you can not tell me that she does not have a face full of botox! I used to really like Beyonce – she was empowering to women, was fiercley protective over her private life and generally seemed like an intelligent women. Since she has become a mother it is as if she is in fear of people only seeing her as that. She now feels the need to share everything on her tumblr page, spread her legs when performing and bascially spouting any hypocritcal nonsense to gain coverage.
I am really proud of Beyonce because from all the girls who were a part of “Destiny’s Childs” she was the only one who had a good soul and kind heart. And she proved it many times, with a variety of her songs. Like for example the song “I was here” shows her attitude towards all the problems that are happening in the world, the problems other people do not carry about and pretend they do not see. And it is a pity that everything is happening this way, because if we all would gather and do at least one good thing for another person without expecting anything back, than it already would have been a huge step worthy of our attention. Beyonce is being one of the very few women in Hollywood who is setting a great example for the other girls. She is able to be a sex symbol and one of the most wanted women in the world without even opening her body, or participating in some disgusting nude scenes, that she as well as her family would later certainly feel ashamed of.
I think Beyonce has underlined a very correct thing in her new video. But I am wondering why she is the only celebrity who is concerned about the fact that women are doing a lot of mistakes and sometimes they even lose their lives for the sake of the stereotypes created by the society. How come it has became a normal thing for people to go under the surgeon’s knife in order to change something that they don’t even need in the majority of cases, not to mention the fact that some things they can changed by simply doing some exercises. It is really a tragedy watching women trying to correct and change their own essence, without even questioning their selves about the reasons they are doing that. I feel sorry and guilty for the fact that I am a part of this society. And for the fact that I am not doing anything in order to change the situation, like Beyonce does. I am sure that video will become one of the most important ones in her carrier.
Hmm, I think this video Beyonce just released will become a huge scandal, as of course it will make the majority of her fans thinking and reconsidering whether they really need or not really to go through all kind of surgeries in order to achieve this or that effect, as well as the surgeons throughout the world will not thank her for it. But I am glad that she made this step. Beyonce is one of the most beautiful women in the world, and yet she didn’t do anything in order to change her looks, she could have make her breast bigger, or become much thinner due to all kinds of liposuctions and other things, but she didn’t go for it. As she is proud enough in order to stand for the things she believes in, and in order to be the person who she really is. I remember same type of scandal was a long time ago in the fashion world after a few models have died from anorexia, which was also due to the fact that society was making the women to go through major stresses in order to correspond to their “standards” of beauty. And after it there were changes as models stopped being so skinny and look more natural now. Hopefully this video will become the first step in making women recognize that they are better and a lot more than the society is telling them they are.
