No family is perfect and we’ve all had our share of drama, that’s for sure. However, when we fight with our family members, it stays private, but it’s a totally different thing celebrities. Domestic feuds of the famous people usually end up on the cover of a magazine for the whole world to see and some stars have seriously dysfunctional family relationships. Here are some famous family feuds that made headlines.
Jennifer Aniston and Nancy Dow
Jennifer Aniston and her mother, Nancy Dow, had been estranged for more than a decade after Dow gave an interview about their relationship in 1996. According to the Daily Mail, the actress called her mother afterward, and told her that she’d never forgive her for betraying her trust. Dow’s 1999 book, From Mother And Daughter To Friends: A Memoir, about their rocky relationship, didn’t make things any better. Aniston and her mother began speaking again in 2005. “Yeah, it’s been really nice,” Aniston said of the reconciliation after nine years of estrangement. “It’s been really nice. It’s crazy what, you know, your life kind of being turned upside down will lead you to. … For us it’s … it was the time, and it was going to happen when it was supposed to happen. So this is good. It’s baby steps.”
Tori Spelling and Candy Spelling
In her memoir Mommywood, Tori Spelling describes her dysfunctional mother-daughter relationship with Candy Spelling, which crumbled after her father Aaron Spelling suffered a stroke in 2006. The legendary producer left behind a $500 million estate but gave a majority of his fortune to his wife Candy Spelling, while Tori inherited only $800,000. Things between them really became heated in 2009 when the elder Spelling penned an open letter to her daughter on TMZ.com titled, “Middle-Aged Reality Show Stars (Like My Daughter).” In the letter, Candy criticized her daughter for having her life played out on camera and turning her kids into “reality show props.” The two have since reconciled.
Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen
Martin Sheen has been worried for years about his son Charlie’s health, and talked about it openly in February 2011. In an interview with Sky News, the elder Sheen said, “If he had cancer, how would we treat him? The disease of addiction is a form of cancer.”
Angelina Jolie cut her father, actor Jon Voight, out of her life in 2002 after he revealed to the press that the actress had adopted a son from Cambodia. Voight fired back at his daughter, saying that Angelina had “serious mental problems.” After several years of estrangement, recent tabloid photographs of the two together suggest that a reconciliation has occurred.
Tatum O’Neal told “Nightline” anchor Cynthia McFadden in a 2011 interview that by the time she was in her teens she was using drugs and alcohol, had been molested several times by family friends and had tried to commit suicide. While Tatum tried to make amends with her dad last year, she’s acknowledged that they’re no longer speaking and she’s OK with that. “That’s what turned out to be the best thing for me,” she told ABCNews.com.
Lindsay Lohan and Michael Lohan
In March 2011, Dina Lohan told RadarOnline that Lindsay was no longer speaking to her father, Michael Lohan. Lindsay told the website she wished Michael would stop talking about her. “I am sorry that my father has continually chosen to speak publicly about our relationship, my mother, my siblings, and my professional team. I am working through my recovery day-by-day and find his public media bouts unnecessary and damaging,” she said.
Alec Baldwin and Ireland Baldwin
In 2007, the actor took out his anger for ex-wife Kim Basinger on the couple’s daughter, Ireland, who was just 11 at the time. A harsh tape of Baldwin calling the preteen a “rude, thoughtless little pig” went viral and exposed an ugly side of the Hollywood family. The two have since reconciled.
Beyoncé and Matthew Knowles
Beyoncé told the press that her decision to fire her father and longtime manager Matthew Knowles as was totally amicable, but court documents prove otherwise. Matthew, who managed the singer’s career for 14 years before getting the boot, allegedly stole from his daughter. He also admitted to cheating on Beyoncé’s mother Tina, who later filed for divorce.
Well, the conflict between two generations will always exist and the celebrities are not the exception. Besides, where the big money is interfered the problem would arise even within the families. The feeling of greediness and jealousy is familiar to all of us and unfortunately sometimes the closest people take advantage of us and then it is so devastating that the best thing you can do is to cut off any ties and go silent. I still cannot understand why would parents steal from their kids or take any advantage as in many cases of celebs families from this article.
