Long-lasting relationship is not a common thing in Hollywood, therefore it’s no surprise that many celebrity couples call off their engagements. Here are some of the most intriguing famous couples who got engaged but never made it down the aisle.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck
Affectionately known as “Bennifer,” Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez postponed their wedding one day before it was set to take place back in the fall of 2003 and a few months later they called it quits. The two started dating in the beginning of 2002 and were engaged before the end of the year. The wedding was set for September 14, 2003 in California. Just hours before the event, the wedding was called off. In January 2004, the couple announced their split and blamed it on the negative publicity and media attention.
Ryan Reynolds and Alanis Morisette
Reynolds and Morisette got engaged in 2004 but called it quits in February 2007. “They remain close friends and continue to have the utmost love and admiration for each other. They ask that their privacy be respected surrounding this personal matter,” the former couple said in a statement to People at the time.
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth began dating in 2010 after meeting on the set of “The Last Song” and became engaged in 2012 – when the singer was only 19! The couple announced their split in September 2013, months after rumors of infidelity on Hemsworth’s part began rocking their relationship.
Britney Spears and Jason Trawick
In 2013, Britney Spears and Jason Trawick broke off their engagement. They had been dating since 2009 and Trawick was one of the pop star’s conservators. Sources say that it was his decision to end things, but Spears dealt with it quite well. According to the singer, it wasn’t one of her hardest breakups.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt
The two stars started dating in 1994 and were engaged in 1996, but never made it down the aisle. Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt called it quits in 1997. Apparently the “Shakespeare in Love” star called the wedding off because she wasn’t ready for marriage. “My kind of internal stuff really tripped up that whole relationship,” she told Diane Sawyer back in 2003. “And I felt really responsible, and also like I was the architect of my own misery. I just made a big mess out of it.”
Rachel Weisz and Darren Aronofsky
The couple had been engaged since 2005 and are parents to a son. But in 2010, they decided to end it; by the next year, Weisz was married to her Dream House co-star Daniel Craig.
Kiefer Sutherland and Julia Roberts
In 1991, Julia Roberts and Kiefer Sutherland’s Hollywood wedding was set to take place at 20th Century Fox’s Soundstage 14. But it never happened. Roberts shocked the world when she broke up with Sutherland just three days before the ceremony and ran off with his best friend, actor Jason Patric. Friends said Sutherland was shocked by the split, but more than a decade later, he said, “I commend Julia for seeing how young and silly we were, even as painful and difficult as it was.”
Zoe Saldana and Keith Britton
Zoe Saldana and her longtime boyfriend Keith Britton called it quits in November 2011 before making it down the aisle. The pair, who had been dating for eleven years, announced their engagement in February 2010.
Jude Law and Sienna Miller
Jude Law and Sienna Miller were engaged until he publicly confessed to cheating on her with his children’s nanny in 2005. Although these two tried to work it out after the cheating scandal, they ended up splitting in 2006. They got back together in 2009, but broke up again two years later.
Tara Reid and Carson Daly
Tara Reid and Carson Daly were engaged from 2000 to 2001 before they called it quits. The actress seems to have some regrets about ending the relationship. “If I would have married Carson I’d probably have kids by now…I wouldn’t have had all that crazy partying. My life would have been completely different. I’ve never loved anyone the way that I loved him,” she said.
At last we are all people and even the most beautiful and romantic relationships end one day. We say ‘it wasn’t meant to be’, but forget that everything depend son us and our willingness to work on relationship. If there was chemistry and compatibility at the beginning one can make it work, if there is a will. IMHO.
Awe I remember very well the good old times when Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were engaged! Those too looked very cute and really in love together, especially in one of the video’s to a song by Jen. Actually I feel sorry for Jennifer and for the fact that they never made it, as I am sure it is her fault, though she has spread the rumor that Ben was unfaithful to her, and he cheated on her just before their wedding, I am sure he did not. She simply screwed up as usually by being the person she really is. And no matter how hard she tries to not show it, it is pretty obvious for me that this is her essence. And I am happy for Ben Affleck, God has stopped him from making the mistake of his life, and this way he was able to meet a genuinely kind and wonderful woman- his wife Jennifer Garner who born him three children.
I guess the entire world remembers all the little dirty things about the relationship between Sienna Miller and Jude Law. He really is a bastard and jerk as he betrayed all the women who ever were with him, but the worst thing is that I don’t understand why is he doing that? First of all he cheated on his wife with Sienna, and I am sure that is was a huge attack on her, there are not many women in the world that would be able to bear with it and keep living like it never happened. And after everything he and Sienna have gone throw, he cheated on her as well with the nanny of his children. I have no idea how this is possible, and how he can live with that? And from the other side, if a person has cheated and betrayed once, than it is more than likely that this person will do it again.
The only couple I feel sorry they are not together anymore from all those couples who never did married is the couple consisting of Britney Spears and Jason Trawick. They really were cute and looked nice together. I guess Jason was one of the two men in Britney’s life who really cared about her, as he loved her, and not the things she have. He and Justin Timberlake were those two people who truly and madly loved her, but she screwed up in both of those relationships by choosing some other man, who was more than likely using her. I guess it is very sad, that no matter what she is doing she is not able to find a person who would really care of her and not simply pretend. I wish her lots of luck and hopefully next time a good person will be by her side she will not let him walk away.
