O. J. Simpson’s trial was one of the most publicized and most controversial criminal trials in America. Even though the former football player and actor was found not guilty, many believe he did murder his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman. However, O. J. is not the only famous person involved in a murder. Here are some others.
Amy Locane
In February 2013, Melrose Place actress Amy Locane was sentenced to three years in prison after being convicted of vehicular homicide in the 2010 death of 60-year-old Helene Seeman. Locane hit another car with her own while driving with a BAL 3 times over the legal limit. The collision killed Helene Seeman and seriously injured her husband, Fred.
Charles S. Dutton
In the 1970s, actor Charles S. Dutton served hard time for manslaughter, illegal possession of a firearm and acting as the ringleader of a prison riot. When was 17, he got into a fight with another man and killed him. He was convicted of manslaughter and spent seven years in prison.
Brandy Norwood
In 2006, singer and “America’s Got Talent” judge Brandy Norwood was involved in a freeway pile-up that caused the death of Awatef Aboudihaj. Though Aboudihaj had struck the vehicle in front of her before Brandy hit her rear bumper, witnesses on the scene said the singer claimed responsibility for the accident, repeatedly saying, “I should have stopped.”
Keith Moon
On January 4, 1970, The Who drummer Keith Moon accidentally killed his friend and bodyguard, Neil Boland, by hitting him with his car. Moon was trying to drive away from pub patrons who were harassing him, and he did not see his friend in the road. Moon was charged with Boland’s death, for driving without a license or insurance, and for driving under the influence. Though the death was ruled an accident, Moon pleaded guilty to the driving charges.
Rebecca Gayheart
On June 13, 2001, actress Rebecca Gayheart was driving on a Los Angeles street when she struck and killed nine-year-old Jorge Cruz, Jr. Although Cruz wasn’t using the crosswalk, the cars in front of Gayheart had stopped to allow him to cross the street. However, the actress, not seeing the boy, veered around the cars in an effort to avoid stopping and struck Cruz in the left-turn lane. Gayheart was also talking on a cell phone at the time. She pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter and was sentenced to three years’ probation, a one-year suspension of her license, a $2,800 fine and 750 hours of community service. A civil lawsuit from the Cruz family was settled out of court.
Matthew Brodderick
In 1987, when driving with then-girlfriend Jennifer Grey on a country road in Ireland, Broderick lost control of his vehicle and it swerved into the oncoming lane, crashing into another car. The driver and passenger in the other car, Anna Gallagher and her mother Margaret Doherty, both died from their injuries. Broderick spent a month in the hospital but because of memory loss, he was unable to explain what happened. It was determined that the actor wasn’t drunk at the time of the accident, and he was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, although he was eventually convicted only of careless driving, escaping with a $175 fine.
Skylar Deleon
The actor who appeared on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was sentenced to death in 2009 for murdering a husband and wife on their yacht. In 2004, he convinced Tom and Jackie Hawks to take him on a test cruise on their yacht, which he pretended to want to buy. While at sea, he tied them to the anchor and pushed them overboard, still alive. He was also convicted of the 2003 murder of Jon Jarvi, who was found in Mexico with his throat slit.
My father used to say the pledge of allegiance and ended it “with justice for all who can pay.” My father has passed, but every time I read how famous or wealthy people get away with murder, I think of his words. We have 2 classes, rich/famous and the rest of us. I don’t blame the rich or famous, I blame the so-called justice system. There are many other examples of this including the child raper Woody Allen, the double murderer Ray Lewis and the serial raper Rothlesburger.
Matthew Broderick hit a mother and daughter head on while driving the wrong direction on a road in N Ireland. Both mother and daughter died. Brandy did rear end someone and it killed them, she wasn’t charged with a crime.. I don’t know why not since rear ending has always been found to be the fault of the person who did the rear ending for following too close. Celebrity forgiveness here? I think so. Let’s not forget Sid Vicious stabbed Nancy to death. Rebecca Gayheart hit a 9 year-old with her car, was found guilty of vehicular manslaughter.. poor thing got probation out of it. Vince Neill killed someone in a drunk driving incident also leaving two others with brain damage, Vince was the drunk and found guilty.. did he serve any significant time? Hell no.
