Hailee Steinfeld: Kissing scenes in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ were awkward

Hailee-Steinfeld In an interview with Sunday Telegraph Hailee Steinfeld has admitted the kissing scenes in the new adaptation of Romeo and Juliet were embarrassing. The 16-year-old actress stars opposite Douglas Booth in Shakespeare’s classic tragedy and she says that dying and kissing on screen were not easy for her.

”This movie had my first dying scene, which was pretty intense … And the kissing scenes were awkward, because you have to forget that there are 10 or 15 people standing watching you. It was embarrassing,” she said.

Hailee was included in choosing her Romeo in the movie and she explained it was easy for her to pick Douglas because of his qualities and the immediate connection they had from their first reading together.

Of course he is very good looking, but he’s also so talented and sweet – the perfect Romeo,” the actress said, adding that they started the filming with the famous balcony scene. ”We started with the balcony scene. ‘Hey nice to meet you, balcony. Let’s go.’ But Douglas and I jumped right in.”
