Testifying for the bill that would limit the ability of paparazzi to photograph the children of celebrities, in Sacramento, California, on Tuesday (June 25), Halle Berry said that her daughter Nahla is terrified of photographers.

The 5-year-old girl doesn’t understand why paparazzi follow her and she is afraid to go to school because of them. Halle told the Assembly Committee on Public Safety: ”My daughter doesn’t want to go to school because she knows ‘the men’ are watching for her. They jump out of the bushes and from behind cars and who knows where else, besieging these children just to get a photo.”

The actress also said that her daughter once asked her if the paparazzi were going to kill them. It was after the incident at Los Angeles International Airport in April when a photographer and Halle’s fiancé Olivier Martinez got into a fight and Nahla saw that. ”They were trying to start a fight with my fiancé because if they get a photo of that it’s more money. She asked ‘Mommy, are they going to kill us?’ She didn’t get to sleep until 3 a.m. because she can’t get this out of her mind and she doesn’t understand what just happened to her,” Berry said.
