It’s no secret that Josh Brolin has struggled with alcohol for years. The actor himself has talked about it and even checked into rehab late last year. But now he reveals that he has also had drug abuse issues and was a heroin user.
Speaking to The Guardian, Brolin said: “I tried heroin, that sounds so horrible when you put it like that. But yeah, I tried heroin. I mean, I never got into it and I never died from it, which is a good thing. I’ve had 19 friends who died. Most of those guys I grew up with, they’re all dead now.”
The 46 year-old has also revealed that he was a member of the ‘Cito Rats,’ a gang of surfers with a bad reputation, in the early 80s.
“It was Santa Barbara. It was the ’80s. It was punk rock,” he said. “You either had the children of rich, neglectful parents or children of poor, neglectful parents, so it was a mix. But we basically grew up the same way. I’ve never seen a group like that before or since.”
However, last year was a turning point for Josh.
“I realized that I was on a destructive path. I knew that I had to change and mature. It was like I stepped back and saw the hamster wheel,” he added.
Josh Brolin has made a great comparison of using drugs and a hamster wheel. I am very happy that the great and a very talented actor didn’t choose this path for a life time. I am happy he had enough forces to step aside and stop destroying his life. As you can see many of his friends from youth are already dead due to the drugs. Drugs have never made anyone happy. The euphoria they create in your mind is temporary and transforms into a dreadful obsession that is killing you form within.
