Kellan Lutz to Play Hercules

kellan_lutz_610974 Kellan Lutz is the new Hercules. The actor has signed up to play the titular role in Hercules 3D. He auditioned for the part and Renny Harlin was impressed with his “passion and heart.” Harlin told The Hollywood Reporter: “It takes more than a good physique to portray the most legendary, mythological personality in history — and Kellan has exactly that, personality.” The director continued: “He’s not afraid to explore the strengths and vulnerabilities of the character, and he impressed me with his passion and heart.”

Head of Creative Affairs, Boaz Davidson, said: “Kellan has the look and charisma that Harlin envisioned for the character. Renny had him in mind from the start, and we are really excited to have him on board.”

The movie has a budget of $70 million and the production will start next month. The story centers on a romance between the mythological Greek demi-god Hercules and the mortal Princess of Crete but the Princess is promised to Hercules’ older brother. Millennium hopes that the movie will be ready for a March 2014 release.

Paramount and MGM are also working on a movie about Hercules (Hercules: The Thracian Wars) with Dwayne Johnson, which is set for an August 2014 release.
