Speaking at Point Honors Gala, organized by a foundation that helps LGBT students, Lena Dunham said she was disappointed when she realized she wasn’t gay.
The actress claims she feels such strong connection to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community that she was very happy when her sister Grace came out.
Addressing the crowd at the gala, Lena said: ”I have always felt a strong and emotional connection to members of the LGBTQ community. It was actually a huge disappointment for me when I came of age and realized that I was sexually attracted to men. So when my sister came out, I thought, ‘Thank God, now someone in this family can truly represent my beliefs and passions’.”
Nothing wrong with showing support, but when it comes to “It was actually a huge disappointment for me, when I came of age and realized that I was sexually attracted to men”, it is patronizing. I’m gay also and hate it when I hear straights tell me things like that, my friends and I cringe.
I ‘m gay. I love it when people come to these things and show support. It makes a huge difference in the lives of young kids out there who are trapped in bad families who judge them and don’t support them and make them feel awful. It lets them know there’s a nicer world out there.
