Mariah Carey has just released her latest studio record, ‘Me. I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse’, and she says that while she is very proud of her achievements, making music is such hard work that she gets so preoccupied with it she can’t sleep when recording a new album.
In an interview with Britain’s HELLO! Magazine, she said: ”I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved so far, but clearly I’m not one to sit back and do nothing. I always look ahead. I want to continue trying to make music that inspires people.
I’m such an achiever that it’s difficult for me to relax and let myself get some sleep. I’m very hard on myself, actually. Believe me, you don’t want to be here all day around me, because it’s hard work.”
Mariah also addressed the ‘diva’ label that follows her, denying that she is harsh on the people around her.
”My mother, an opera singer, used to use the term as a compliment – it meant a very talented singer,” she said.
”I looked it up in the dictionary recently and now it also means a difficult and demanding woman. But I’m only demanding on myself. In other ways I’m pretty down-to-earth.
”For instance, I’m grateful for my career, I value my friendships and I’m loyal. All my friends know MC keeps her word – and I never divulge secrets.”
