Earlier this year movie critic Rex Reed made some really nasty comments about Melissa McCarthy while reviewing her film Identity Thief. Reed actually called the actress “tractor-sized” and “a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success”.
Melissa never replied to this but many of her friends and colleagues stood up for her. However, in an interview with The New York Times, she finally decided to say something about Reed’s article.
When asked about her first reaction to the review, she said, “‘Really? Why would someone O.K. that?’ I felt really bad for someone who is swimming in so much hate. I just thought, that’s someone who’s in a really bad spot, and I am in such a happy spot. I laugh my head off every day with my husband and my kids who are mooning me and singing me songs.”
