Appearing on Australian TV show Sunday Night, Miley Cyrus discussed her provocative dance moves and pointed out that Elvis Presley was actually the first star who twerked but no one had a problem with that.
Miley, who is often criticized for her performances on stage, thinks it’s because of the double standard and believes that her critics wouldn’t be so loud if she was a man.
She said: “Elvis, he wasn’t wearing the outfits I was wearing but he was coming out and he was doing like the Og (original) twerking… Like, no one wants to admit that he was twerking, he was…
“He was like love. He was a symbol of love but no one would have ever called Elvis a s**t because he wasn’t a girl… It’s that double standard and I think I’m doing something for the double standard.”
