Robert Downey Jr.’s son charged with felony cocaine possession

robert After his June arrest, Robert Downey Jr.’s son Indio has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

The 20-year-old was arrested in June after police officers noticed he was a passenger in a car in West Hollywood and smoking something out of a pipe. The vehicle was pulled over and Indio was searched and arrested on charges of cocaine possession.

According to TMZ, as he will be a first-time offender if convicted, he is automatically entitled to a drug diversion program.

After Indio’s arrest, Downey, who battled substance abuse himself in the past, said in a statement: “Unfortunately there’s a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. Also, there is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he’s capable of being. We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale.”
