KTLA’s reporter Sam Rubin had an unpleasant encounter with Samuel L. Jackson thanks to a mistake he made.
The actor appeared on California’s KTLA news channel to talk about his latest movie, Robocop, but was infuriated when the reporter confused him with Laurence Fishburne.
Sam Rubin asked Jackson about his appearance in a Super Bowl commercial. “Did you get a lot of reaction from that Super Bowl commercial?” Rubin asked.
“What Super Bowl commercial?” Jackson replied, looking confused. “You’re as crazy as the people on Twitter,” the actor said. “I’m not Laurence Fishburne. We don’t all look alike. We may be all black and famous, but we all don’t look alike. You’re busted.”
The reporter tried to apologize but Jackson continued: “You’re the entertainment reporter for this station?” he asked. “And you don’t know the difference between me and Laurence Fishburne? There must be a very short line for your job.”
Rubin kept trying to talk about the movie but Jackson said, “Oh hell no! Really? Really?! There’s more than one black guy doing a commercial. I’m the ‘What’s in your wallet?’ black guy. Morgan Freeman is the other credit card black guy. You only hear his voice though so you probably won’t confuse him with Laurence Fishburne.”
WTF? How can a reporter confuse two different people? I wonder why such incompetent people work in mass media. I can understand Samuel’s reaction. This is very offensive. I understand why he didn’t want to go on with the interview. And I still don’t like the racist remarks about them being black and white people easily confusing them. This was not very polite and nice, but I can understand what cause his fury.
